πŸ› οΈ Deta's next big bet on developers
Deta wants to empower developers to create the next generation of ideas in the cloud. Deta Cloud is built on the belief that neither infra complexity nor paywalls should block the first versions of great ideas from going live.
For developers, we are incredibly excited to bring you our next big bet on you and your ideas: Deta Space. With Deta Space, we see a world where any developer around the world can ship and scale their apps to the world with 0 ops (and make $ doing so) on a new kind of cloud.
πŸš€ πŸͺ Yes, scale. No, infra.
Deta Space unlocks a number of huge benefits for application developers:
Fully managed servers: app developers have an ops burden of 0, no matter how many users they get
Fully managed security: app developers don't have to worry about user data / compliance
Unique distribution: Deta Space's unique model connects developers to new end users, globally
Fully managed monetization (soon): app developers can earn money with their apps, activated in minutes
Here's what a few devs had to say about Space after seeing it:
πŸ§‘β˜οΈ Powered by the 'personal cloud'
Deta Space is able to provide these benefits because it's what we call a 'personal cloud'. Web apps on a 'personal cloud' are different than traditional 'public cloud' web apps. With traditional web apps, all users share a server, database, and file store with an auth system. In a personal cloud, each user of an app gets their own complete app instance β€” with their own fully managed server, storage, and database(s).
Deta Space currently supports full stack personal web apps on the back of Deta Micros, Deta Base, Deta Drive, and Deta Access. But this is just the beginning β€” we see a future of with real time collaboration in apps, data backups & rollbacks, extensibility via SDKs & Deta Cloud, alongside data that works seamlessly across applications (like on your PC, but connected to the internet).
πŸ’₯ What early adopters say about Space
Deta Space already features some incredible apps, built by developers like you. See what they said:
Sam Poder, creator of Berowra:
Without Deta Space & Cloud, building Berowra would have been a massive pain in the neck. Publishing on Space allowed me to act like I was building this app for one person; I didn't have to worry about authentication. With Deta Space, all I had to do was run deta deploy and the users of Berowra could update their app to use my new code. Whenever I got stuck, reaching out on the Deta Slack / Discord always let me move past any issues. Totally would recommend building on Deta Space, it's a ton of fun.
This new approach to web apps with a "personal" cloud is really awesome and I think it has great potential! It's somewhat similar to self-hosting an application like with Nextcloud or Ghost, but with less stress and for the masses. Deta Space is not only a huge time saver for me as a developer (as Deta Cloud already is), but it also offers a new and exciting way to install and use web applications as a user.
Berrysauce, creator of microletter:
I like Deta Space because it makes developing web apps seamless, since you don’t need to worry about servers, databases, or authentication. Meanwhile, the customer doesnβ€˜t have to worry about their data getting into the wrong hands
For years I've avoided creating user accounts and saving user data to the cloud because of the complexity and security implications of managing users. With Deta Space, my users can now save, load and share images from Method Draw. As a developer, Deta Space allows me to provide these services stress free, with minimal additions to the codebase.
πŸ’‘πŸ—οΈ Have an app idea? Build it on Space
If you find these ideas exciting and you have your own idea, we'd love to hear from you. You can submit your idea and feedback about Space directly to the Deta team.
Our next cohort of early Space app developers will work closely with the Deta team.
